Abstract
Wild bioresources use is traditionally important for the Adi community of the Siang valley. It holds great cultural significance, economic value and forms diverse food systems thereby reducing pressure on cultivated resources. Siang valley falls under the eastern Himalayan biodiversity hotspot, with most of its forest categorised ‘unclassed’. With increasing road connectivity and easier access to towns or nearby markets, this bioresources use has paved the way for livelihood opportunities. This change, however, could impact the use and dependence on bioresources in terms of availability and traditional knowledge systems. This research explores these dimensions to understand the impacts of development. Key findings gauge at species richness and use at levels of development, dependence on markets for consumption and sale of these wild bioresources and the impact development has these on traditional knowledge.
