Abstract
“Unweaving the Deccani” is an immersive autoethnographic exploration delving into the intricate tapestry of Kurubas shepherding practices, their relationship with the Deccani sheep and its wool in North Karnataka. Through a narrative inquiry approach, the thesis uncovers the cultural, ecological and economic dimensions of indigenous wool craft and its conservation. The study took Design Thinking as a conceptual approach to unravel the challenges faced by the pastoralists in the Deccani wool economy and to seek innovative solutions for sustainable practices. By interweaving personal stories, lived experiences, oral histories and open ended interviews as participatory methodologies, the research aims to shed light on the aspirations and perceptions of the Kurubas, resulting in showing the hope and resilience of the community in preserving the traditional craft of Kambli through cultural linkages.
