Abstract

A report encapsulating the work carried out as part of an internship with the Climate and Ecosystems programme of Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy. Vidhi is an independent think-tank invested in meticulous legal research to aid better governance on different parameters across the country. My prior work experience and acquired interdisciplinary learning was the ground on which I based my internship goals of understanding the functioning of an environmental not-for-profit company; assisting Vidhi’s Climate and Ecosystems team with research and analysis in any capacity along with framing a communications strategy; and deciphering environmental legalese. This report details my involvement in organizing and researching data for a yet to be launched website, aimed at tracking and disseminating regulatory information on India’s Protected Areas. It also explains how I helped develop a preliminary promotion strategy for the post-launch phase of the website combined with a quarterly social media activation and outreach plan centered around the Climate and Ecosystems team’s research and associated activities.

The report contents also emphasize my collective experience of the internship by demonstrating practical application of the theoretical knowledge gained during postgraduate course modules such as, Project Cycle Management, Conservation Policy and Governance, Qualitative Research Methods, and Communicating Science. This internship has been an exercise in understanding the role of an environmental think-tank as a significant actor in public policy making.
