Abstract

This report narrates my experience, as a filmmaker, who embarked to capture the rare and elusive and endangered White-Winged Duck, which occurs largely within wetlands located deep within the dense forests of Assam. The whole process of making a film from scratch is not easy, particularly when there is just over a period of 5 months to deliver which left me with about 30 days to finish the location scooting and shooting. The issue is that it's not easy to capture this species on camera due to its elusive nature. This report largely focuses on describing the entire process of filmmaking and the numerous obstacles and setbacks that I faced during the shooting phase while trying to locate the protagonist of my movie. The report also touches upon the convergence of spirituality and cultural beliefs within the local community that ultimately led me to get the elusive species on camera. I also reflect on how the footage that I could obtain during this internship, and my own filming experience can contribute to a better understanding of the species and aid the conservation of this highly threatened species.
